Chief Olumuyiwa Makinde, Esq., a native of Oyo State, Nigeria, is a distinguished Nigerian legal practitioner, management specialist, business professional and international agribusiness scholar. His professional journey reflects a unique combination of legal practice, military service, business development, banking, management, entrepreneurship, academic achievement, leadership and service.
Chief Makinde began his professional career in the Nigerian Air Force, where he served as an Intelligence Operator from 1988 to 1993. His military service provided him with valuable experience in intelligence operations, information analysis, confidentiality, discipline, responsibility and structured decision-making. He subsequently worked in the agricultural and commercial sector as a Marketing Officer with S & D Farms Limited (1993–1994), an experience that contributed to his later interest in agribusiness.
His career thereafter expanded into business development and the private sector. He served as a Business Development Officer at Makon Engineering & Technical Services Limited (1997–1998) and later as Business Development Manager at Makon Oil & Gas Limited (1998–2001). These positions provided him with substantial exposure to commercial operations, client relations, business development, stakeholder engagement and organizational management. He further developed his professional experience in the banking sector, serving as a Supervisor at Co-operative Bank Plc (2001–2003) and subsequently as Business Development Manager (2003–2005). His progression within the banking industry strengthened his experience in supervision, administration, banking operations, customer relations, business development and commercial management.
Chief Makinde subsequently pursued a career in law. He obtained his LL.B from the University of Ibadan in 2008, proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, Abuja, where he obtained his B.L. in 2009, and later earned an LL.M from the University of Ibadan in 2011. He gained practical legal experience as Legal/Litigation Counsel at Olawale Omoloye & Co. (2009–2010), where he developed expertise in litigation, advocacy, legal research, drafting, case preparation and client advisory.
In 2010, he founded Olumuyiwa Makinde & Co. (Hallmark Chambers), where he has served as Founder and Principal Partner to date. Under his leadership, the firm has provided legal services in areas including litigation and dispute resolution, property and land matters, corporate and commercial law, contracts, legal documentation, legal advisory and consultancy, advocacy and legal research. His diverse background in military intelligence, agriculture, business, oil and gas and banking has enabled him to bring a broad commercial and practical perspective to his legal practice.
Chief Makinde has maintained a strong commitment to continuous education and professional development. Beyond his legal qualifications, he obtained a Certificate in Management Studies/Certified Management Specialist (CMS) from the London Graduate School in 2019, followed by an MBA in Agribusiness in 2021 and a Ph.D. in International Agribusiness in 2025. His academic development across Business Administration, Law, Management and International Agribusiness demonstrates his commitment to multidisciplinary knowledge and professional advancement.
